Thanks to your support, the amazing River Patrol Team has been hard at work this year – keeping the forest safe and full of life!
So far, the team has completed 30 patrols across 91 days in Way Kambas National Park. Each patrol lasts between one and five days. They protect wildlife, stop illegal activities, and keep the park safe and clean.
Along with their regular patrols in the forest, the team also carried out 13 night patrols along the forest’s borders. These patrols help nearby communities protect their crops from wild elephants. As elephants look for new paths to cross the border, they often venture onto farmland. To help, the team is expanding their work to protect even more villages. It’s all about keeping both people and elephants safe!

Rain or Shine, the Team Never Stops
Early this year, heavy rain flooded many parts of the forest. But that didn’t slow the team down! They pulled on their boots, grabbed their gear, and kept patrolling – even using small wooden boats in places too flooded to walk.
Watch this impressive video of the team wading through flood waters. Nothing gets in the way of protecting the forest and precious wildlife!
Amazing Wildlife Sightings
While on patrol, the team keeps track of every sign of wildlife they find. This helps them to better understand which animals live in the park and how to protect them.
The team caught real life glimpses of:
- A Malaysian blue flycatcher
- A Greater horseshoe bat

And came across signs of:
- Sun bear scratch marks on trees
- Tapir footprints and feeding signs
- Tiger footprints
- Fresh elephant dung

Every sign tells a story about the incredible wildlife living in this lush and diverse forest.
